A house fire on Monday night burned through a house in north Amarillo. Five kids were inside the house ranging from 2-13 years old. 22 firefighters in seven fire units were called out to the scene.

When fire officials got there three children were outside telling the fire fighters that two other kids were inside the house still. Fire fighters entered the house and found a 7 year-old old inside of the kitchen still breathing.

A short time after firefighters found the 2 year-old in a back room dead. At the time of the fire no parents were present at the house. Estimated damage by the fire officials were around $50,000.

The seven year old is currently at Northwest Texas Healthcare System and is being treated for smoke inhalation. An autopsy was ordered for the 2 year old. According to ConnectAmarillo.com "the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services has no specific law in Texas that states how old a child can be to stay home alone and supervise other children. The law, according to TDFPS, states there are several factors that should be evaluated when leaving children home alone."
