The nation has been in an uproar since the Supreme Court made the ruling on same sex marriage.  There has been a ton of support but there has also been a ton of opposition.

While this is a huge step in our society, not everyone is abiding by the new ruling.  As a matter of fact, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton strongly disagrees.  He issued a statement Sunday saying: “County clerks and their employees retain religious freedoms that may allow accommodation of their religious objections to issuing same-sex marriage licenses.  Justices of the peace and judges similarly retain religious freedoms, and may claim that the government cannot force them to conduct same-sex wedding ceremonies over their religious objections.”

Amarillo, however, disagrees.  Potter county alone has received tons of calls already.  According to Potter County officials, they are bound to uphold the law and that is what they plan on doing.

Potter County is already working on getting new forms and are ready to perform the marriages as they come in.  Randall county clerks said that they too are planning on following the law and will be updating their marriage applications as well.

Many Amarilloans are already planning their weddings!

Do you think that not wanting to issue the same sex marriage is breaking the law?
