Amarillo is not considered the best place for young families to live.

Apartment List took a look at four factors of standards of living to determine which cities were the best for young families. They analyzed safety, housing costs, school quality, and child friendliness in about 500 different cities.

These factors were weighted on a 100% scale so that each city would get a grade from A+ to F.

Allen, Texas, took first place with a 97.2 score (A+). Frisco, McKinney, Flower Mound, and Pearland also made it into the top ten.

Amarillo fell far below other Texas cities at #249. We took a huge hit for the crime, which only got a 15.8. However, we scored big with child friendliness, coming in at 80 points. Combined with average housing costs and average education, Amarillo ended up with a B-.

Among the worst places for young families, St. Louis, Missouri, came in at the very bottom with a score of 8.3%. Detroit, Atlanta, and Cleveland were also in the bottom ten.
