Amarillo police are investigating a strange incident that occurred earlier today at the Walmart on South Georgia Street.

According to police, a man was inside Walmart when the gun he was carrying went off, shooting him in the abdomen and leg. Supposedly, he fell to the ground, recovered, put the gun in the trash, and left the store. He was driven to the hospital and treated for his injuries.

APD isn't sure if the gun was in the waistband or pocket of the man's pants, how the gun went off, or if the man is licensed to carry a concealed weapon in the state of Texas. If he is unable to provide verification, he will be charged with carrying a concealed weapon without a permit.

The gun was reportedly a .357 revolver.

Because the man has not been charged with anything, his named has not been released to the public. However, police said that his injuries were not life-threatening.

Nobody else was injured in this incident.
