Cameron Mitchell Denton was in a stand-off yesterday (April 23, 2013) with the Amarillo Police Department and the Amarillo SWAT team for five hours.

The stand-off started around 11:00am when officers responded to a call of a home invasion on the 3500 block of Danbury in the Puckett area. When officers arrived they seen the suspect running in an alley, then force entry into a home on the 3500 block of Carlton, police said.

Officers set up a perimeter around the house and secured the area, APD and SWAT negotiators were called in to remove the suspect from the home. Officers seen the suspect inside the home carrying a handgun. Officers did not enter the house for safety reasons since the suspect was armed, police said.

Tear gas was fired into the home in an attempt to bring out the suspect, the SWAT team also deployed their robot to get a better view inside of the home. Negotiators were finally able to reach the suspect on a cell phone through a family member who was in contact with Denton. Communication with the suspect lasted around an hour before he came out of the house unarmed, police said.

The suspect was arrested at 5:04pm and booked into the Randall County Jail on charges of burglary of habitation and criminal trespass. Police did recover a handgun inside of the home after the arrest that did not belong to the home owner, additional charges are pending, police said.
