Over 1,000 restaurants were hacked.

On July 7th, Wendy's reported that credit card information had been stolen from 1,025 of their restaurants across the country. The first sign of malicious activity occurred in February. An investigation was conducted and they confirmed that malware had been installed on some of their computers in May. They discovered more hacking software in several other restaurants in June. Those systems have all been disabled.

Wendy's released a statement about the incident that said the company believes they were hacked because of a remote server being compromised.

They are offering one year of complimentary fraud consultation and identity restoration services to any customer that used a credit card at one of the affected locations during the time the malware was installed. Professionals will help cardholders protect their identities and restore any information that was stolen.

There is a list of all potentially affected stores on the Wendy's website. If you think you may have been part of this incident, there is a toll free number you can call for the complimentary services mentioned above. The company also suggests that you watch your credit card statements for any suspicious activity and freeze or cancel your card if you think it's been compromised.

Amarillo currently has five Wendy's locations, plus one location in Canyon. None of those restaurants have been identified as victims in the hacking incident.
