Blake Shelton's personal life has been a hot topic for the better part of the past year in light of his divorce from Miranda Lambert and new relationship with Gwen Stefani.

At an album release show Monday night (May 9) at the Honda Stage in Los Angeles, the "Came Here to Forget" singer revealed some of the stories behind his album, including how he picked his album title If I'm Honest.

Shelton recalled discussing album titles early on with Warner Music Nashville executive Shane Tarleton.

"I was like, 'Man, I want it to be, I need a title that represents a timeline, like 12 or 13 months of my life, like if somebody took those months and wrote a story about it, that's what I want the album to represent and we kept saying like, 12 Months and Holy Crap,'" the singer recalls. "Finally he was like, 'What do you mean by that?' I was just like, 'I just want to tell the truth about what happened.'"

And alas, the title of If I'm Honest was born. Always the funnyman, E! Online reports that Shelton also joked about putting his personal life on show throughout the album.

"I figured since everybody else is cashing in on my life, I might as well as get some of that, too," he quipped.

While it's hard not to make assumptions on which track on the album may or may not be about Lambert, Shelton shares that "I Bet You Still Think About Me" is an easy song to read in between the lines.

"It's basically what it sounds like," he says. "At some point whether you go through a divorce or a breakup or whatever, once you get past the anger and the frustration of it all, you kind of go into the sad part of it where it's just like, 'Gosh, how come that didn't work out?' And that's what this song is about. Even though stuff didn't work out, I bet you miss me a little bit. It's a sad song."

Also on Monday night, Shelton performed his new duet with girlfriend Stefani — "Go Ahead and Break My Heart" — on The Voice. The country singer's If I'm Honest album will be available on May 20.
