Search crews have recovered the body of 19-year-old Jerry Greer, the son of country singer Craig Morgan. Greer went missing on Sunday (July 10) after a tubing accident on Kentucky Lake in northern Tennessee.

WSMV-TV in Nashville broke the news Monday night (July 11), relying on a statement from the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency. The news station states that the young man’s family aided in the search effort. Morgan is a an EMT, sheriff’s deputy and former Army Ranger. The driver of the boat pulling Greer and another 19-year-old also joined the search on Monday, redirecting a rescue effort that included multiple agencies.

Humphreys County Sheriff Chris Davis spoke to media Monday afternoon, clarifying that Greer was being pulled behind a boat in a tube and was indeed wearing a life jacket. The tube hit a wave, causing the recent Dickson High School graduate to fall from it. He didn’t speculate as to why the life preserver didn’t cause him to float to the surface.

After news broke that the missing man was indeed Morgan’s son, the singer's publicist sent a statement from the family thanking fans for their support while asking for privacy during a difficult time.

A candlelight vigil was planned for Monday night at Dickson County High School, but was later called off out of respect for the family. Greer played football and soccer in high school and enjoyed hunting with his father. He planned to play football at Marshall University in the fall.

Funeral arrangements are pending. Greer is survived by his parents, sister Aly Beaird and brother-in-law Ryan Beaird, brother Kyle Greer and fiancée Chelsea Rogers and brother Wyatt Greer.
