UPDATE 6:02pm: The suspect was taken into custody by the Amarillo Police Department just after 5pm. According to Amarillo.com the police had contact with the suspect for an hour before he turned himself in.

The APD is working with the Amarillo Fire Department and the homeowner to get the house ventilated properly, tear gas was used earlier in the day to try and remove the suspect from the house.

UPDATE 3:56pm: The stand-off has been going on four hours now. The Amarillo Police Department just released a statement saying "the male was seen in the home, but has not come out despite efforts to contact him by telephone and by loudspeaker."

Also at this time the APD is investigating six burglaries or attempted burglaries in the area that could be related. Police officials also said the owner of the home on Carlton St. where the suspect is held up was not home at the time the suspect entered the house.

UPDATE 2:10pm: According to Amarillo.com police received a burglary call around 10:15am to the 3500 block of Danbury. When police arrived the suspect fled the house on Danbury and entered a house on Carlton St.

Police did say they seen the suspect with a gun. There is around 40 law enforcement officials on the scene at this time. They are still trying to negotiate with the supect.

UPDATE 1:44pm: The Amarillo SWAT team is on the scene and has fired tear gas into the home. They have also deployed the SWAT robot into the home.

Amarillo residents are concerned at the moment since no schools in the area are on lockdown. Amarillo High School in nearby.

UPDATE 1:30pm: ConnectAmarillo.com confirming the suspect is armed and dangerous. The Amarillo Police are trying to establish some kind of communication with the suspect. The area is being evacuated.

12:58pm: The Amarillo Police Department currently has the 3500 block of Carlton in the Puckett area on lockdown. Reports say there is an armed burglar inside a home. Police received calls around 10am this morning on homes being broken into in the area.

According to ConnectAmarillo.com "A resident in the area said that this burglar is responsible for several burglaries in the area." Police are asking residents to stay inside of their home and avoid this area. They have a helicopter circling the area.
