Carrie Underwood's upcoming hits collection contains one song that fans haven't heard yet, and now the singer is sharing details of the track, 'Little Toy Guns.'

Underwood co-wrote the song with Chris DeStefano and Hillary Lindsey. It is one of two new tracks on her upcoming 'Greatest Hits: Decade #1' album, which is set for release in December. The song takes on a very powerful subject.

“There’s these characters in the song, and there’s a little girl, and she hears her parents fighting, as unfortunately a lot of kids do,” Underwood tells the Country Vibe. “So it’s basically her saying, in her words, I wish their words weren’t real. I wish they were like little toy guns and they didn’t hurt you.”

The singer was inspired to write the song from her personal observations.

“I’ve seen it firsthand from different people in my life and seen how the tumultuous parental relationship between each other can affect a child,” she says. “So that’s kind of what it’s about, but it’s a really tempo-driven song as well, so it’s kind of a bit of a juxtaposition as far as the story content and the music ... It sounds rockin’, but it has a positive message.”

'Greatest Hits: Decade #1' is set for release on Dec. 9. Its lead single, 'Something in the Water,' is already at radio.
