We love our drinks, Coke, Dr. Pepper, Mountain Dew, vodka, whiskey, etc.  However did you know that a lot of drinks were originally made to do something different.

Coke was created in the Civil War era as a substitute for morphine and eventually was sold as as a medicine in pharmacies and soda shops.  Yes it is true in the early beginnings of the medicine, it did contain cocaine.

Mountain Dew

A couple of Tennessee boys came up with the formula of Mountain Dew so that they would have something to mix their whiskey with when drinking.  So Mountain Dew was originally a mixer.
