There were plenty of country superstars scheduled to perform at Nissan Stadium on the first night of the 2017 CMA Music Festival -- Brett Eldredge, Miranda Lambert and more -- but the crowd got one more than expected. Garth Brooks surprised concertgoers with a short set packed with hits.

An unannounced act, Brooks strode onstage at Nissan Stadium on Thursday night (June 8) and began his set with "The Thunder Rolls." "Callin' Baton Rouge," "That Summer" and "The River" were also in Brooks' set, as was his newest single, "Ask Me How I Know."

Brooks closed his short CMA Fest 2017 set with "The Dance" and "Friends in Low Places" -- two of the biggest hits in a catalog full of massive songs. Readers can press play below to see a snippet of Brooks' performance of "The Dance;" press play above to watch the Nissan Stadium crowd join Brooks in singing nearly every word of "Friends in Low Places."

"That’s Nashville, home of country music!" Brooks yelled from stage (quote via the Tennessean). "Are you kidding me?!"

Brooks is currently out on the road on his World Tour. The trek, which began in September of 2014, will allegedly wrap up its North American run this year; Brooks has said that he will then look at touring overseas. Brooks and his wife, Trisha Yearwood, made an appearance at the 2017 CMA Music Festival's HGTV Lodge earlier in the day on Thursday.

The 2017 CMA Music Festival is scheduled to run through Sunday (June 11) in Nashville.
