If you are looking for a fun family day trip to get out of town, then Lubbock is a fun place to visit.  They have a lot of fun stuff to do, and one in particular as some of the cutest creatures.

Over the last three years I have spent many a weekend in Lubbock.  However, it wasn't until yesterday that I finally got to visit the Prairie Dog Town.

Yes, I get that most people find prairie dogs nuisances and like land rodents, but this place is great.  It's a home to hundreds maybe thousands of prairie dogs.

Prairie dogs running around, popping their heads out of their holes, chasing each other, screaming at each other.  They are EVERYWHERE.

Before we went we researched what prairie dogs eat, and we found out that the love sweet potatoes and carrots.  Before we headed out we went and bought some baby carrots.  They loved carrots.

They also love pumpkin seeds, we had some in the car and I researched that they were safe before we fed them to these cute creatures and they were safe.  They seemed to love them more than the carrots.

It was just fun to watch them interact and have fun.  One would grab the carrot another would chase him, one would grab a carrot and disappear in his hole.

I found a little fella, who I named Frank, he had his burrow hole just out side the main area of the PDT, and he would stick his little head out and stare.  I took him some carrots, he munched on one, then snuck the others into his home.  He was awesome!

Prairie Dog Town is located in Mackenzie Park, 301 I-27. Prairie Dog Town was founded in 1930 by Mr. and Mrs. Kennedy N. Clapp.
