This is a hugely controversial subject and this article is written to get feedback from you, the American Citizen. Take a look at the information and questions presented below and take the polls to voice what you think is the proper direction for the US Welfare system.

The debate over welfare started at its conception and has been quite heated since. Many people feel that there should be time limits. Should someone be able to get on welfare and remain on it for the rest of their life?

Time on AFDC Percent of Recipients
Less than 7 months19%
7 to 12 months15.2%
1 to 2 years19.3%
2 to 5 years26.9%
Over 5 years19.6%

Another hugely controversial question that is being pitched is, should there be mandatory drug tests for people who are using the governmental welfare assitance program?

While there are no ‘real time’ statistics on who is using drugs and collecting welfare, it is still a big enough issue to prompt some states into pushing for the drug testing of any recipient of welfare assitance. Of course, not everyone who is on welfare is using drugs, but is the number enough to warrant these tests? In the end, will it save the government more money to drug test these recipients, or will it waste more?

Now it’s time for you to voice your opinion. Take the polls below.
