Kenny Chesney’s duet with Pink isn’t quite the spikey pop or hip-hop influenced country cut some may have been expecting. “Setting the World on Fire” makes use of the pop star's voice in a way familiar to Chesney fans.

Much like he does during his duets with Grace Potter, Chesney brings Pink into his world on “Setting the World on Fire.” Lyrically one recalls “El Cerrito Place,” a more poignant country story told on the beaches of California. Here the two characters share one explosive night together, but sing from the perspective of two people who understand things may have gone too far.

There’s no regret, just understanding as they trade verse and chorus. Chesney handles the building storyline before Pink more or less takes care of each refrain on her own. There is some harmonizing later in the song, enough to convince a skeptic that although unexpected their collaboration is not unusual.

Heavy strings and a drum track actually tie the song to pop music more than Pink does. She’s a talented vocalist that could have picked her format many years ago. Chesney fans should be happy that she’s chosen country now.

Kenny Chesney's "Setting the World on Fire" Lyrics:

“Yeah we got drunk on La Cienega Boulevard / Takin’ pictures of people we thought were stars / It’s easy to give in to your heart / When you’re drunk on La Cienega Boulevard.”

“When the song comin’ out of the speakers / Was the band that you had on your t-shirt / We were screamin’ ‘cause all the streets were empty / And you kissed me, and we were …”

Chorus:

“Up all night and we were feelin’ so good / Yeah, we got a little higher than we probably should / We were in a hotel singin’ in the hallway lights / We were strikin’ the matches right down to the ashes / Setting the world on fire / Setting the world on fire.”

“Wrote I love you in lipstick on the mirror / We were shoutin’ out the window, like they could hear us at the pier / Said do you think we’ll live forever, as we killed another beer / And you wrote I love you in lipstick on the mirror /

“We were laughin’ until we were breathless / Never felt anything so reckless / We were all lit up and restless / And comin’ alive and we were…”
