According to Slate.com, the slang word that defines Texas is...

..."hoss."

To Texans, the definition of hoss varies from "big, burly guy" to "a good pal." But it's still a part of Texas vocabulary that most people are familiar with.

I'm sure a Washington native has never used the word "hoss" and might have trouble determining its definition, in the same way a Texan doesn't know what "jumble sale," a popular phrase in Washington, means.

(It's a yard sale, by the way.)

But that goes for a lot of slang words from other states. In fact, some of their sayings are downright goofy.
