Now that the holidays are officially dead and buried, studios are back to releasing new films at a brisk pace — and this weekend, you’ll have your choice of four.

The new Tim McGraw album isn’t expected to be in stores or at iTunes until Jan. 24, but fans can now buy four of the 12 cuts from ‘Emotional Traffic‘ online, including the just released song ‘The One That Got Away.’

Movie studios inundated us with releases last week, which meant some were bound to get lost in the shuffle — especially the two that bowed on Christmas Day. Let’s take another look at them, shall we?

Whether your thing is singing rodents or sleuthing Englishmen, you’ll want to start heading to the theater. In ‘Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked,’ the squeaky trio of Alvin, Simon and Theodore find themselves marooned on a tropical island after they go overboard from their cruise ship.

In its second week of release, ‘Puss In Boots,’ the Antonio Banderas-voiced swashbuckling feline from the ‘Shrek’ franchise, pulled in $33 million in milk money to again take the top spot at the box office this weekend.

This weekend’s new films include a timely tale of revenge against a greedy rich guy, and the latest in a movie franchise beloved by users of, shall we say, “recreational herbs.”

He’s a legend today, but Buck Owens wasn’t born into country music royalty — in fact, he struggled for years as a session musician and performer, releasing a series of little-known recordings for smaller labels. Next month, thanks to a compilation scheduled for release by Rockbeat Records, fans will get a new chance to hear some of Owens’ earliest recordings for themselves.
