It's been a long time since country music has dominated the Super Bowl halftime show, but Tanya Tucker hopes that changes next year.

While in New York, Tucker was stopped by TMZ and asked who she thinks should perform at the 2017 Super Bowl.

"Gosh, probably Chris Stapleton," she tells the tabloid cameras. "He's the first one I could think of."

While Tucker says there are a lot of acts who would be suited for the show, she stresses that "it would be great" if a country act could be featured during the halftime performance.

Tucker performed during the Super Bowl halftime show in 1994 alongside Travis Tritt, Clint Black and the Judds, and says she'd love to perform again if asked. In 2003, Shania Twain played the halftime show, but no country acts have been highlighted since.

Football season's opening theme, however, has shown much love for the genre. Carrie Underwood returns this year as the singer of the Sunday Night Football opening theme, taking the reigns from Faith Hill several years ago. NBC recently released a teaser for the new theme which includes a 15-second preview set to the tune of Underwood’s duet with Miranda Lambert, “Something Bad.”

The teaser features iconic images from the NFL — the lights, the field, a giant flag unfurling — interspersed with glimpses of Underwood in a spotlight, singing the new theme’s title: “Oh, Sunday Night.”

“I love being part of the Sunday Night Football family and can’t wait for the fans to hear the new theme song,” Underwood says.
