Teens Are Turning To Hand Sanitizers To Get Drunk

As a parent, now is as good a time as any to be worried.  Through all the stupid fads, this has to be one of the most harmful.  Teenagers are drinking hand sanitizers to get drunk.

Through the years, there has been some stupid fads that kids go through to get drunk or high.  I've heard everything from vodka eyeballing, vodka soaked gummy bears, and even (as disturbing as it sounds) soaking tampons in vodka.

But for some reason this latest trend seems to be the most harmful, in my opinion.  Teens are starting to drink hand sanitizer!  Yes, you read that right.  The stuff that you buy to kill the germs on your hands, that is what they are drinking.

Now I don't really drink, but I can't imagine wanting to get drunk that bad.  I have accidentally tasted hand sanitizer and it tastes horrible!  I would never want to drink that.  These kids are even going a step farther and using salt to break up the alcohol from the sanitizer.

Experts are saying that a few squirts equals a couple shots of hard liquor.  The sanitizers are 120 proof compared to vodka being 80 proof.  That is a big difference.

Doctors are saying that short term side effects are that of a drunk person: slurred speech, unresponsiveness, and they can slip into a coma like state.  Long term effects are expected to be worse.

This is insane.  I see these kids using this as a cry for help.  Or they are just dumb!  I would never think to drink hand sanitizer.  Parents be warned!
