The 10 Rules Of The Road Runner Cartoons [VIDEO]

One of my favorite Warner Brothers cartoon has been the never-ending chase of the Road Runner and Coyote.

This classic pair of characters were created in 1948 by Chuck Jones and Michael Maltese.

After all these years there have only been 48 shorts created of the Road Runner as “he runs on the road all day.”

Trivia question: Who provided the ‘beep, beep’ voice of the Road Runner?

Did you know that there are actually 10 ‘rules’ that must be followed in each of the episodes?

  • The Road Runner can’t harm the Coyote – except by going “beep, beep.”
  • No outside force can harm the Coyote.
  • The Coyote could stop anytime – if he was not obsessed by the Road Runner
  • No dialogue ever – except “beep, beep.”
  • Road Runner must stay on the road.
  • All action must stay on the Coyote and Road Runners natural environment – the southwest American desert.
  • All weapons, tools and mechanical devices must be obtained from the Acme Corporation.
  • The Coyote is always more humiliated than harmed.
  • Whenever possible, make gravity the Coyote’s greatest enemy.
  • The sympathy of the audience must always remain with the Coyote.

There was only one time in the history of the Roadrunner cartoons that the Coyote actually caught his nemesis. See how he handles it in the video below.

Trivia Answer: Although Mel Blanc did all of the voices for the Looney Tunes classics, he did not perform the ‘beep, beep’ for the Road Runner. That job was given to Paul Julian.
