This latest news might come as a bit of a disappointment for all you Loki-lovers out there -- it seems Thor's antagonistic and mischievous brother won't be returning for 'The Avengers 2.'

In a recent interview with the Empire Movie Podcast, writer and director Joss Whedon revealed that Tom Hiddleston will not be reprising his role as Loki in 'The Avengers 2' when it hits theaters in May, 2015. That's because there won't be any Loki in 'The Avengers 2.'

Whedon was asked about the status of the film, and he gave the same update we've heard a couple times before:

"I've turned in a first draft, but the story is very set. Everybody's very much on board with the exact movie I'm trying to make which is what worked the first time."

When asked about Loki's role in the first film and how that might play into the sequel, Whedon shifted gears and dropped this tidbit:

"Imitating what I did before is the surest way to do it not as well. Second of all, and Loki is not there to say those terrible things. "

Don't worry, Loki fans, you can still get your fix of Asgard's shameful villain when 'Thor: The Dark World' hits theaters this November. As hinted in the trailers, though, it seems that Thor might be down to kill his pesky brother -- maybe that's why he's not around for 'The Avengers 2'?
