Things Not To Get Teens For Christmas

When it comes to teens, it can be very tricky for parents to find things to give them for the holidays. They're too old to be getting Barbie dolls and Power Rangers but not old enough to be getting ties and kitchen ware. They want more sophisticated stuff, expensive stuff, making gift searching a struggle. Well this list makes things easier by listing things NOT to give teens. Choose any of these and be greeted with an annoyed, eye rolling, or gaping teen, distracted teen. With that being said, here it is:

Hand-me-downs

There's nothing more annoying than getting someone else's junk. Being the oldest of two younger sisters, I can safely say that hand me downs are a big NO. Nobody wants old, faded jeans while the one that handed them down to you  gets new ones. Besides, those jeans will probably fall apart by the end of the year.

Home-Made Stuff

Teens are not grateful enough to like home made stuff yet. Even If they say they like the gift, they still secretly wish for the shinny, sleek stuff on the store shelf. Sure a brand new television set doesn't compare with a hand knitted sweater that took months to make but do teens care about that? Just save the time and effort and buy them something instead.

Gadgets And Technology

Getting an iPhone or Samsung Galaxy into their hands can seem like a great gift; that is, if you never want to see them again. Phones are great to talk with people who are far and keep them close, but teens and phones are becoming a problem. It's easy to get caught up in technology and get distracted. If a teen just has to have that iPhone or iPad its fine, but just make sure to remind them that there's a time to put them away.

Pets They Wanted Years Ago

Giving puppies as presents isn't even something one should do anyways, especially to Teens. If junior asked for a parrot or bunny years ago and hasn't asked since, it's probably because the crave came and went. A pet is a long commitment filled with responsibility and the rewarding feeling of achievement, something little kids crave since they don't have any. Teens, however, are already aware what responsibility is with jobs, homework and life. Piling one more thing they need to worry about is probably going to lead Fido to being tied up in the back yard.

Things for Someone Else

Whether it's computer or car, teens like having control of their belongings. So when mom says it's a gift for more both, there's going to be problems. Sharing is important but siblings seem to have some sort of anti-borrowing syndrome implanted in their brains. If they weren't sharing then, then they're defiantly not sharing now.
