Over the last few years, Amarillo's crime rate has been on the rise. It seems that every single week you hear of a new store being robbed. Well, this last weekend it was a motel off of I-40.

On 11-29-13, at 10:24 PM, officers investigated a robbery of the Sleep Inn and Suites at 6915 IH-40 West. The desk clerk, a WF 21, told officers that a male walked into the motel and asked about room rates. After she gave him the information, he placed a note on the counter and told her, “You might want to read that.” The motel employee read the note, which instructed her to “empty the register and you won’t get hurt.” The man was wearing a large jacket and keeping his hands concealed in his pockets, and she feared he had a weapon. She gave the man money from the register. He put it into a small pouch and placed the pouch and note into a pocket. He then left the motel and was last seen walking east from the front door. The suspect was described as a WM in his mid-20s or early 30s, 5 ft. 6 inches tall, clean shaven, wearing a dark blue to purple jacket and gloves. He was wearing what was described a black “beanie” hat pulled down close to his eyes. No one was injured in the robbery and there have been no arrests.
