The Halloween season is upon us. That means lots of horror flicks are hitting theaters and there will be some extra spooky stuff airing on TV.

But this week in entertainment and pop culture isn’t all about the scary. We’re also getting a sequel to one of the most popular action-suspense movies of the past few years, plus a web series based on one of the most popular video games of all time.

Read on for 10 things to check out this week:

Taken 2

Liam Neeson is back as broody badass Bryan Mills, and this time he’s killing EVERYONE. The bloody, suspenseful and action packed sequel to the 2008 hit film was written and produced by ‘Leon’ director Luc Besson. ‘Hit Man’ and ‘Colombiana’ director Olivier Megaton is in the director’s chair this time, so you can expect plenty of bullets, chase scenes and non-stop face punching. We kinda can’t wait. ‘Taken 2’ opens wide on Friday.

Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn

The new ‘Halo’ web series debuts on Friday to set the stage for the release of ‘Halo 4.’ We showed you the trailer and poster for this series back in July, and we’ve been anticipating the live-action carnage ever since. You can find the first episode of ‘Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn’ Friday on YouTube.

V/H/S

This critically well-received found footage horror anthology finally hits theaters on Friday, just in time for Halloween season. Some are already calling ‘V/H/S’ the scariest movie of the year, but some critics say some anthology entries are great but some fall flat. We’re ready to get scared in theaters this Friday.

Sinister

It’s another horror flick! Whattayaknow. This one stars Ethan Hawke as a writer who moves his family into a house that’s haunted by … something sinister! ‘Sinister’ opens on Friday and it’s directed by Scott Derrickson, who helmed ‘The Exorcism of Emily Rose’ and 2008’s ‘The Day The Earth Stood Still.’

Frankenweenie

Word is that the Tim Burton of old – that’s ‘Beetlejuice’ and ‘Edward Scissorhands’ Tim Burton – is back with this animated retooling of his original 1984 short film about a boy and his undead dog. Check out 'Frankenweenie' in theaters on Friday.

Syfy’s '31 Days of Halloween'

The cable network celebrates our favorite ghoulish holiday with a month’s worth of creepy programming, kicking off this Wednesday with a special 90-minute episode of ‘Paranormal Witness.’ The creepy continues with extra-spooky episodes of shows like ‘Haven’ and ‘American Horror House.’

‘Supernatural’ Season 8 premiere

The boys are back for an eighth – eighth! – season of meta monster mashing on The CW. Some fans say the show has lost it’s way while others say it gets better with every season. Find out what happens when 'Supernatural' returns on Wednesday night.

'30 Rock’ Season 7 premiere

It’s the final year of the hit NBC sitcom. ’30 Rock’ returns to the tube for a short final season run. This one, apparently, is for the fans. Count us in. ’30 Rock’ season seven premieres Thursday night.
