One thing about the Amarillo area and the Texas Panhandle is that we are in a very agricultural world. Many students in the area participate in agricultural clubs such as 4-H and the Future Farmers of America, known as the FFA.

Why Raising Show Animals Matters for Students

While in these clubs, these kids spend countless hours and money raising animals for stock shows.  The better the animal, the more money it brings at auction, and this money goes to the child's future education or animals for future stock shows.

Blood, sweat, and tears go into raising these animals, and when something happens to these animals, it is devastating.

Sadly, many students at Caprock High School are mourning and feeling the devastation of the loss of some of these animals.

Details of the Dog Attack on Caprock FFA Animals

On Tuesday, September 2, 2025, animals, including goats and lambs that belonged to Caprock High School FFA students, were killed by dogs. The dogs found access to the pens of these animals, and many were seriously injured or killed.

According to a spokesperson for Amarillo ISD,

Stray dogs got into our agricultural farm, resulting in the loss of several goats and lambs. This has deeply saddened our team of staff and students who work at the ag farm, and we are evaluating what, if any, additional steps could be taken to help improve the safety of our animals moving forward.

One of the student's parents posted to their Facebook page about the damage that occurred at the barn. Due to the graphic nature, we have chosen not to post the photos, but you can see the damage here. Just be warned, the pictures do contain deceased animals and blood.

Support Efforts and Fundraisers for Caprock FFA Students

A GoFundMe account has been set up to help these students recoup the cost of these animals.
