Summer is in full swing, so we're all trying to find ways to keep the family entertained without breaking the bank. Fortunately, Amarillo, Texas, has a lot to do and plenty for everyone to enjoy.

One of the unique things you'll find in Amarillo is all the opportunities you have to watch a movie while getting some fresh air. The summer is full of outdoor movie nights.

Free Movies in the Park

Starlight Cinema is an event where you can get the family together and go watch a movie for free, outside, at one of Amarillo's many parks. It's a great way to spend an evening, and the best part is that it's free.

On Friday, July 18, they will be showing Grease at Sam Houston Park. It starts at 9 PM and is completely free to attend. Just show up and find a spot to relax and watch the film.

Dive-In Movie Experience

Another outdoor movie event is the "Dive-In Movie" that will be shown at Thompson Pool. This is possibly the most unique way to watch a movie outdoors this summer. You get to swim while enjoying a flick.

The movie being shown is Lilo & Stitch. The event is being held on June 28 from 9 PM until 11 PM. Tickets are $10 per person. You can find out more on the Amarillo Parks and Recreation website. You will need to register for this one.

Classic Drive-In Double Features

Of course, there's always Tascosa Drive-In. This Amarillo landmark is a favorite haunt for my family. We've gone several times, and my kids love the Halloween events they have.

This weekend, June 20 through June 22, they will be showing a double feature with How to Train Your Dragon and Final Destination: Bloodlines. You can get all of the details on Tascoa Drive-In's website, including ticket pricing and their food policy.

Why Outdoor Movies Are a Must This Summer

There are a lot of great summer activities in Amarillo, and one you might want to think of adding to your family's "to-do list" is catching an outdoor movie.
