Ask anyone and they'll tell you that everything is getting more expensive. If you've been out to eat in Amarillo recently and complained about higher prices, there's a reason why. Prices at many restaurants have increased by an eye-watering amount.

You're Not Imagining How Much Costs At Restaurants Have Increased

A recent study by FinanceBuzz dug into the rising costs at many popular chain restaurants. What they found was shocking. You're not imagining how much the cost of eating out has increased.

According to their findings, the cost of dining at a chain restaurant has increased by an average of 42% since 2020. Sitting around and talking about how expensive it is to take your family out is one thing. It's another to take a look at the numbers.

Which Restaurants Have Seen The Biggest Price Increases

The restaurants with the biggest price increases are all restaurants we have in Amarillo. According to the study, the biggest increases were found at:

  • Waffle House (96%)
  • IHOP (82%)
  • Texas Roadhouse (46%)

The reasons, according to Nerd Wallet, behind the increasing costs of dining out are varied. Supply chain issues still take a share of the blame. The pandemic and the war in Ukraine both added stress to the supply chain, which in turn made prices jump. We're all familiar with the current bird flu problem that has made the cost of eggs jump.

The cost of operations has also gone up over the years. This can be everything from the cost of equipment to the cost of fuel. It's everything businesses need to keep up and running.

Fingers crossed we see prices come down, but I wouldn't hold my breath. It feels like what we once thought of as "affordable" is going to remain nothing but a memory.
