Food is important in Texas. It's a big part of our way of life. We have our style of BBQ, treat fair food like a religion, and you can't call yourself a Texan if you don't like Whataburger.

With this food obsession in the Lone Star State, it's surprising to hear that Texas is actually among the states that spend the least when it comes to fast food.

I would have guessed that, based on population size alone, Texas would have ranked high for fast food spending. A lot of people live here, and they all have mouths that need to be fed.

The study, done by WalletHub, looked at three foods in particular. Burgers, pizzas, and fried chicken sandwiches were the menu options looked at. According to the findings, Texas offers some of the most affordable fast food prices.

What the Study Looked At

When it comes to the price of a burger, Texas ranked 45th in the country. We ranked 46th for the price of a fried chicken sandwich.

The thing we spend the most on is pizza, and we still ranked 39th. That's nothing to be upset about.

The Surprising Cost of a Meal in Texas

This doesn't mean that fast food isn't expensive. The last time I decided to splurge and order from one of my favorite spots, it cost me around $20 just for myself. All I got was a burger meal with an extra order of fries.

What's shocking is how this study paints fast food in Texas as more affordable than the majority of the rest of the country. I know what we're paying in the Lone Star State. My wallet weeps thinking about what other states are paying.
