Books are great for a lot of things. They a take a room from drab to intellectual in a split-second. They fill up unused space on shelves. Sometimes, they're even great for reading. That's the part I'm most excited about.

This weekend marks the return of Amarillo Library's annual book sale.

What Is The Friends Of The Library Book Sale?

The book sale is pretty much what it sounds like. You pay money, get a bag, and get books.

Pretty simple.

I assume there are two major benefits to this event. One, it's a great fundraiser for the library. Two, it clears out room for more titles.

Also, it gives us all a chance to help out two great causes. The Amarillo Public Library Facebook account put out this update.

What Time And How Much?

Tonight is reserved for Friends only. The Library did mention in a post on social media that memberships will be available for purchase at the door.

Tomorrow and Sunday are open to the public.

To break it down:

  • Friday (9/9) - Friends Only Night, 6:30 PM - 9 PM
  • Saturday (9/10) - Open To The Public 9 AM - 6 PM
  • Sunday (9/11) - Bargain Day, Open To The Public 2 PM - 6 PM

According to a post on the library's Facebook page, bags will be $7.50 per bag.

Where Is The Book Sale?

The book sale will be held at the Amarillo Library's downtown location. If you've never been to the downtown library, this is a great opportunity to go. If you don't have your membership, this is a great time to get one.

The thing I love the most about this event, is that it reminds me I need to visit the library more. Going to the library was such a big part of growing up for me. Something about the quiet search for that perfect book to read is so satisfying.
