For the past several years, or so it seems, Hoodoo Mural Festival has been a part of Amarillo life this time of year. Every year I make plans to go, but then something always comes up. Not this year.

Did you have a great time at Hoodoo Mural Fest this year? Here's why I did.

My First Priority: Something For The Kids

This was honestly my biggest fear going into the festival. While I might enjoy listening to live music, checking out murals, and having a cocktail; my kids have other things they'd like to do.

We got there just after the gates opened at 3 PM.

Hoodoo Mural Fest had an entire area set aside just for kids. There games, playhouses, and they even got to try their hand at painting with spray paint. Both of my kids that went with me walked away with a coloring book and goodie bag.

Not bad.

Second Priority: Food And Drink

There was a pretty decent selection. Several food trucks were on hand, and there were tents where you could get sodas, cocktails, and other varieties of liquid refreshment.

The cost wasn't astronomical for the drinks, which I was pleasantly surprised to find out.

Loads Of Entertainment

My kids being my kids means they should have a genetic disposition to loving live music. If there's music on, they'll dance. Our car rides are mini concerts. Surely, getting to see the bands would be a hit.

It was a home run.

Both kids danced themselves silly and got lost in it. I have to hand it to the organizers, they did a great job with the lineup. I walked away with a few new names to keep an eye on.

Also, the silent disco was a big hit with my daughter. She put on the headphones and danced her way across the festival grounds.

All in all, it lived up to the family friendly description.

What I'd Do Differently

This is easy. I would get my tickets ahead of time. Kids 10 and under were free, so that meant I was the only one on the hook for a ticket. It cost me forty bucks to get through the gate. I could have saved a few bucks getting them in advance.

Still, not too bad considering the amount of entertainment that you get, and the amount of time that we were there.

As of now, our plans are to make it back out for Hoodoo Mural Festival '23. It's already all my daughter wants to talk about.
