There’s A Big Party Happening Next Week On RT 66. You’re Invited.

In case you forgot, a lot of work was done not too long ago to make sure that Route 66 in Amarillo was given the kind of beacon it deserves. It needed something that travelers and locals alike could look to the sky and see, knowing that they were in fact firmly on the Mother Road. So, the water tower at 6th and Independence got a bit of a facelift.

To celebrate, there's a big part on Route 66 next week. You're invited.

The Bad News...

It's not necessarily "bad," it just means you're going to have to creatively juggle your schedule just a little bit. The party kicks off pretty early in the morning, compared to most other parties I've ever attended in my lifetime.

Where's my all night warriors at?

This soiree is being hailed, appropriately, as The Route 66 Water Tower Celebration. According to a press release from the city, it's going to be at 9AM. On a Wednesday. March 29 to be exact.

I'd love to go, but I'll be in the middle of work. If you can make it, you'll want to go celebrate at Smitty's. They're at 3913 6th.

The Good News...

...is that it's finally happened. Getting this water tower painted is something that has been a bit of a passion project for many, for quite some time. It took a lot of people coming together to make it happen.

According to the press release from the City of Amarillo, this celebration will be honoring those efforts of so many, and will also honor Route 66. There's also going to be live music, and refreshments.

Also, there will be some Route 66 style giveaways.
