I have said it before the year 2024 has been the year of the remodel in Amarillo. We have had several places that have closed so that they could get a facelift. They needed to either get some repairs done and closed for a short while like Cheddars or just start fresh.

There were places like Wendy's and Braum's that totally demolished and built back from the ground up. Several of them have taken turns closing and reopening. This has been a busy year with all of that happening. Even the Starbucks on Georgia Street got in on that action. Most of them are back to being open. Not all. I know the Wendy's on Ross is still in the rebuilding stage. It will just be a matter of time before it is back.

Currently, there are two businesses that I have noticed that are in the process of getting remodeled. The thing about these two places is that they are not closed. They are working around all of the work being done. They are keeping it business as usual.

If you are heading down Soncy you may notice the Dairy Queen near the entrance of Westgate Mall. You can't help but notice that they are currently being remodeled. They needed a fresh start. That doesn't mean the employees have to transfer to another location or stress about fewer hours. Nope, they are staying open.

That is not the only place where this is happening. The McDonald's on Western near Tascosa High is also being remodeled. That is not a business that wants to close down especially when school is in session. Too many students go there for lunch. They can still go they just need to use the drive-thru.

Some places decide to close when they need a remodel. Some find a way to work their way through it. Either way, eventually everything is open again and back to normal, just with a fresher look.
