Be the Change: Tackle Amarillo’s Parking Woes Today!
It happens all over Amarillo. Bad parking. I mean people who can't make it into those two lines given to you for guidance. They are either way over the line or sticking out in the parking lot. It happens a lot.
Then there are those people who don't care at all about anyone else. You are driving through the parking lot looking for a space. You may even drive up and down looking for just one empty space. Then you find one and you rejoice.
As you are making your journey into your location huffing and puffing from that long hike, you notice something. There are a few parking spaces up front. You know the chosen spots that anyone would want to be parked in. You can't legally park there because it is a handicapped spot.
You notice that all of the spaces are taken up. There is no designation of handicapped anywhere. There is no notification on the license plate. There is no placard hanging from the rearview mirror. Nothing. So you start to get a little irate.
How could someone be so selfish to take up those spots? You see it happen and it makes you mad.
Did you know you can actually do something about it? You can make a difference and sign up to volunteer to enforce accessible parking for the elderly and disabled. According to the City of Amarillo website this is what they are looking for:
Are you passionate about making a difference in your community? Join us in serving the elderly and disabled members of our city! The Accessible Parking Enforcement Volunteer is seeking dedicated volunteers to help ensure accessible parking for those who need it most. As a volunteer, you’ll play a crucial role in enforcing parking regulations and protecting designated handicap spaces throughout the city.
You must be at least 21 and be able to pass a background check. Check out the application and all of the details HERE. Instead of going online to complain about people do something about it.
