Dasher Diary: The Customers You Remember Delivering in Amarillo, Texas
Delivering food in Amarillo can seem like any job. It has its ups and downs. We can complain about the traffic. We have the non-tippers to be upset about but it is nice when you have those customers that really stand out.
Sure you go and pick up food and deliver it and then move on. Most of the time those deliveries become a distant memory because you are focused on your next move. What restaurant are you heading to? Will it be a long wait time? How do you maneuver all of the food they ordered to their third-floor apartment? If you can even find their location.
There are a lot of forgettable moments while you are out dashing. So when you get a good one it sticks with you.
A Recent Memorable Delivery in Amarillo
The nice deliveries are the ones that at the end of the day leave a smile on your face. There was something about the interaction that made it memorable. Recently I had a delivery that I had to pick up from both Five Guys and Tiffs Treats.
The delivery had me picking up a burger and fries and then grabbing three dozen boxes of cookies. I was delivering to a medical facility. The customer messaged me letting me know that she was a patient and the cookies would be for the nurses. The food was for her.
She said whenever she is at this facility she likes to show the nurses her appreciation. I love that. I let her know how great that was, my mom is a nurse so I understand the hard work she does. I kept her up to date with the delivery process because the cookies were still baking.
Once I got all of the food I communicated with her that I was on the way but needed a PIN to complete delivery and since she was a patient and I would not actually see her sending it earlier would complete the delivery faster.
Once I got to the facility I dropped off the food. I let them at the desk know the patient's name and that the cookies were going to be going to some of the nurses. I message to let the customer know her food was there and I wished her a speedy recovery.
Sometimes that interaction can make a customer's day. All of the communication prompted the customer to tip more after delivery. I received a text letting me know. Which is great when you can impact a person's life with just a few words.
With what was already a great monetary delivery turned even better. That one delivery ended up netting me over $20 in tips. These are the customers that leave a positive lasting impression.
