So I've been in Amarillo now for nearly two years now. One of our favorite things to do is explore our new city and see what it has to offer. Coming from a big city like Austin, we made sure to temper our expectations a bit.

Not that Amarillo didn't have anything. We've lived in smaller cities before, but when you come from a place like Austin where there is a plethora of things to do because of the size of the city, you have to remember that it's going to be different.

As I was catching up on Reddit, I noticed someone created a thread asking why Amarillo has gotten so boring. Now, I've been here less than two years, and I stay super busy with the kids' sports and all that, so I haven't had the chance to feel like the city is boring. But is there truth to Amarillo being a boring place? Let's see what some users had to say in regard to this.

Our first entrant makes a good point. I guess if you live in a place for too long, anywhere can become boring. You can be happy in a place your entire life and have your favorite spots to go to, but yes, after a while, it'll become repetitive and you'll find yourself looking for and craving new things. I guess that's why we go on vacation.

This one is a REAL reason a place can become boring. When businesses and places begin to close their doors for good, a lot of the spots you used to go and hang out evaporate. You then have to find new places and things to do, and you'll always compare them to your favorites or what something was before. It's a vicious cycle, but it's the reality, unfortunately. Furthermore, it always seems like the places that close down are always replaced with something useless to you. But yes, I agree with the user about the restaurants. I do love to eat.

And then there's this, the one I consider the MVP answer. We just get older. Our interests change. Life becomes different. When you're younger, going to clubs and bars was something we loved to do. Then you get married, have kids, etc. and the things you can do have a tendency to change. It's not easy to go out and do those types of things once your life changes and your age "begins to show" unfortunately.

So is Amarillo boring? Nah, I don't think it is. There's plenty to do here in my opinion, you just have to seek it out. Find a group or people that share similar interests to you. It's not always about "places to go", sometimes it's all about the things you enjoy. For me, I could spend all day at a sports card shop just talking cards and sports. It might be my plan if I actually ever retire.
