Looking for a job when you need one can be one of the most stressful things in life. Finding a job that pays you a solid amount of money to do it can be even tougher.

There are quite a few jobs available in Amarillo at the moment. I swear I see a ton of help-wanted signs around town. Is it because people are looking more for work-from-home style jobs or is it because the pay at the establishment looking to hire is low?

I'd say there's a good chance it's a combo of both things. Thanks to a website called Stacker, we now have a list of the lowest paying jobs in Amarillo, and it'll give you a bit of a roadmap as to what career sectors or jobs to avoid if you're looking to get paid a solid salary or wage.

There are 50 different types of jobs that are listed here, and while we won't go through all of them, we'll take a look at a few of the more surprising ones.

VETERINARY TECHNOLOGISTS & TECHNICIANS

Checking in at number 50 on the list was veterinary technologists and technicians. Truthfully, I thought anything to do with being a vet in any capacity was a solid-paying job. People go to school for a fair amount of time to get into the veterinarian business, but this job is one that doesn't really bring home the bacon. With an annual mean salary of $29,900, this is a spot you might want to avoid unless it's the experience you need in order to reach your goal of becoming a full-on veterinarian.

PRESCHOOL TEACHERS

I can't say this one overly surprised me, but preschool teachers came in at number 43 on the list of lowest-paying jobs in Amarillo. Being the very first exposure these children get to school, you would hope these teachers would get paid a fair amount. Unfortunately, with an annual mean salary of just $29,280 per year, they are some of the most underpaid people in the city and have to deal with children who are still learning how to think for themselves as well as behave. Brutal if you ask me.

PSYCHIATRIC TECHNICIAN

This one on the other hand REALLY surprised me. I know that medical technicians are some of the lower-paid people on the medical totem pole as they work their way up, but I feel like these people are severely underpaid. Their annual mean salary is just $28,410 which is staggeringly low to me. I would feel like ANYTHING in the medical field would be paid well considering our lives are literally in their hands. Furthermore, anything in the medical industry seems like it would be stressful to me.

FOOD PREP WORKERS

We've jumped inside the top 20 of the lowest-paying jobs in Amarillo now, and this one honestly scares me a bit. The people in restaurants that prep our food? Yeah, their annual mean salary is just $24,650. Now, I'm not in any way saying that food prep workers are doing anything to our food, but I feel like getting paid as low as they do, if they were to grow unhappy with that or something else, what would stop them from not performing their job at the highest level? I mean, that's something that could affect anyone at a restaurant. I think it's time they get a raise.

HOTEL, MOTEL, & RESORT DESK CLERKS

Oh, how I feel bad for this one on so many levels. It comes in at number 13 on the list as one of the lowest-paid jobs in Amarillo, and while I understand that maybe the duties aren't overly exerting, they have to put up with a lot of crap for lack of a better term. The annual mean salary for this position is a paltry $23,280, but take into account the number of angry guests they have to deal with on a daily basis. I'm sorry, but I don't think I could deal with getting yelled at daily for that low pay. Keep that in mind the next time you have to go to the front desk for something.
