It's great to see growth in Amarillo. It seems like every time we turn around there is something new coming to a city. This is good news. Some new things that we see new in the area can lead to some questions. The growth is good, of course, but there are some familiar things that can be affected.

There is one empty lot in Amarillo that has led to a lot of questions in the past few years. It sits at the corner of 27th and Ross. In that lot was Advance Tire Shop and Cool Cats Snow Cone Stand. A fire happened at the tire shop and they ended up relocating.

That just left Cool Cats Sow Cone stand in that location. They have been in the same spot for decades. Since the tire shop moved, the land has been for sale a few times. At one point we were supposed to be getting an Exxon Fuel in its place.

That location is right across the street from a Toot n Totum. Not sure what happened with that deal but all of a sudden the Exxon signs were gone. So what might happen here? Who will be next to take ownership of that property? What could happen to Cool Cats who has always been there?

The answer is finally here as to what is moving into that location. At least a little bit. We know there will be shops. What kind of shops is all up in the air right now.

The Shoppes@27th is who is moving into that location. I looked it up and according to the listing from Coldwell Bankers:

The Shoppes @ 27th Coming in 2025
• New Construction with ± 8,000 SF available at 50' unit depths
• 1,200 SF - 8,000 SF available, can subdivide
• Tenant finish out available, subject to the term of the lease and credit
• Drive-up availability on the (2) two end-caps
• Great visibility with 24,642 cars passing the site daily (COA)
• Centrally located in the Lawndale neighborhood in Southeast Amarillo near Sam's Club
• Located at the SEC of 27th and Osage, providing convenient access to both Interstate 40 and Interstate 27

Looking at the plans on the site, I don't see the fate of Cool Cats Snow Cone stand. I hope that there is a place for them. The families that have come to count on them at this location hope so too. Shopping and snow cones, I think this could be a perfect combination.
