Access Denied: Amarillo, Texas Construction Hinders Neighboring Business
Driving around Amarillo, you may notice empty buildings that are getting new life. New businesses are happening all over our city. That can be nothing but good news. Our favorite places are being added to our city or getting a new location, what could be bad?
Most places that are getting a facelift to make a once-empty location into a new place don't inconvenience anyone. They are on their own land, in their own parking lot. We just have to wait for them to be open.
There is One New Location Causing Headaches for Customers in the Area
Recently, I went to get my five-gallon jugs of water filled up. I always go to a nearby water kiosk down Georgia Street in Georgia Village. This is the same shopping center that houses Dollar Tree, there is also a Scooter's Coffee. Oh, and it is home to our favorite Rug Guy.

This is the same shopping center where a fire destroyed part of the shops in the strip. After the fire, a section of the shopping center was torn down to make room for more growth in our city.

Recently, it was announced that AutoZone would move across the street into a soon-to-be newly constructed building. The construction has started and is causing headaches for anyone in need of using the water kiosk.

With the building of the new AutoZone, they have really torn up the parking lot. The area that houses the Scooters, Dollar Tree, and Rug Guy is just fine. The parking lot is just like it has always been.
The parking lot around the water kiosk is destroyed. If you have a low-to-the-ground car like mine, it's not so easy to pull up in front of the kiosk to fill up your bottles. I tried it and I was more worried about damaging my car.
If you do drive to the kiosk, you have to go from a smooth parking lot and walk into a broken-up and dirt-filled area. It's a mess, so I ended up walking into the area. That is not so fun, especially for those of us carrying five-gallon jugs of water or bags of ice.
I know that construction has to be done to get AutoZone over and into its new building. I am not sure if the Pure Ice and Water Place is staying in that location or moving. If it is moving, I wish they had moved it before all of this mess.
If it is staying put, it would be nice not to have had to mess up the parking lot around it. There are customers trying to get water and ice. Hopefully, there is a plan to fix this and soon.
