[REVIEW] Where Has Toom’s Been All My Life?
We were sitting in a meeting recently and the restaurant Toom's came up in our discussion. I remember hearing about them. Oh, yes I have seen some recent reviews of the place.
It made me think maybe they are rather new and I am just catching on. Nope, they have been around for at least thirty years. Really? How have I been in the dark about them? So the reviews I have seen were about their Boba teas.
I also saw some cool things about their bubble waffles too. So, ok, do they serve food? Oh, yes they do. They even have lunch specials. My daughter was super excited because they had beef jerky and sticky rice as one of their lunch special choices. She said we had to go.
So we did. I wanted to try it out. Oh, and one of my New Year's Resolutions that I had to come up with at work was that I would go out and try some new places. Even if they are just new to me. Which Toom's would be for me.
I called in the order because it was just easier for me. It was close to nap time for the granddaughter. Nobody wants to be around when she is getting cranky. I ordered a lot of stuff that I just wanted us to try.
We got lunch. Each picked the 2 item lunch special. I got lemon chicken and chicken broccoli with steamed rice. Faith got the beef jerky and sticky rice plus the beef broccoli also with steamed rice.
Then the fun began. We knew we would share our food with Laila. She doesn't eat a whole lot. I was excited to see how she likes the other stuff. We got a Boba tea. Faith loves it so I let her pick out the one she wanted.
Faith chose the brown sugar milk tea blended. She loved it. I had never had boba before and I was a fan. I should have gotten my own. I felt bad drinking hers but it was so good. I know for next time. I am going to try the avocado one next.
Then we moved on to the bubble waffle. I wanted to get one that Laila would love. You get to pick two toppings and two sauces. We chose strawberries and raspberries with strawberry sauce and whipped cream. I should have also added the chocolate sauce that the employee suggested. I wasn't sure if Laila would like it. It was great.
Next I had never heard of Taiyaki. Why are they shaped like a fish? I don't know. But they are good. Reading about them I think they will be like a sopapilla that is filled with custard. Ok, close but not really the consistency of a sopapilla but it is close. You pick a custard or chocolate to be filled with. We chose the vanilla custard. Laila really loved them. They were chewy which felt so good on her teething mouth. Anything she can chew on is great.
We will be back. I want to try a different boba tea. I want to try more of their menu. I am disappointed that I haven't tried them sooner. They are located at 3416 NE 24th Ave. It is a bit of a drive for us but let me tell you it is worth the drive.
