This Corner in Amarillo Just Got Darker With Recent Closing

One of Walgreen's slogans used to be "At the corner of happy and healthy" because you could always find Walgreens on a major corner on a busy street. Then we found out that Walgreens had taken a hit and was going to be closing a bunch of stores.

We were hoping that the Amarillo locations would be spared but that was not to be. We learned at the end of September that we were going to lose the location on the corner of Plains and Western.

They had notified their customers. Customers who had prescriptions filled at that location had to be transferred elsewhere. Like it or not they were on the list of closings. It didn't take very long for them to go through the closing process.

We got a message recently asking if they were closed. So I went to my go-to of Google Maps which had the glaring red message "Closed Permanently". It took a little over a month for this location to close and it must have happened pretty recently.

They closed and they have all of the signage down already. You can see the light outline of Walgreens left on the building but that is all. So if that is your go-to Walgreens and has been for some time you may have noticed the closing, but you may not have yet.

Luckily there is another location not too far away on Amarillo Boulevard, a six-minute drive from the closed location. I get that it's still close but it still stings a little bit when the location you went to all the time closes.

You may have lost some of your favorite people in the pharmacy or a favorite front cashier. Hopefully, everyone who wanted to was transferred to a new location. Let's also hope this is the last of closings here in Amarillo.
