With the weekend fast approaching in Amarillo, people are looking to get outdoors and enjoy it. After the weather we experienced last weekend with the snow and sub-freezing temperatures, cabin fever is a real thing.

I know my kids were bouncing off the walls by the time Monday arrived. Sure, they were excited and happy school was canceled for the day, but being cooped up in the house with nowhere to go isn't exactly their speed. I'm sure yours were the same. However, there will be one less thing you and the family will be able to do on Saturday.

Amarillo Zoo Closed On Saturday

If you were planning on hitting up the Amarillo Zoo this weekend, Sunday will be the only day you can do so. They just announced the zoo will be closed on Saturday. They cited low temperatures as the reason they won't be opening the doors.

The Amarillo Zoo said its weather policy prevents it from opening when temperatures drop below freezing. They need to keep the animals in warmer climates indoors, which makes perfect sense.

Limited Access to the Amarillo Zoo

The zoo said when temperatures are above freezing but below 45 degrees, there is limited access when it comes to outdoor animals, simply because they can't keep them out there all day in those temperatures.

Saturday's high is supposed to be 42 degrees, which actually falls in that limited range. However, looking at the hourly temps for Saturday, it isn't supposed to get over freezing temperatures until the 2 pm hour, which is simply too late for the zoo to open its doors.
