One of the things we're dealing with more and more these days in Amarillo is hunger. With the rising cost of food, it's becoming harder and harder to put food on the table for our families.

No matter what economic bracket you find yourself in, you notice that you're spending more for the food you eat, and those who were able to do it without issue are now finding struggles, and the ones that were already struggling are at a point where they can't do it without some help.

The High Plains Food Bank is fully aware of that, and they're asking us all to band together for Hunger Action Month this September.

Feeding America is encouraging one million actions nationwide to end hunger, and the High Plains Food Bank is a big part of that here in Amarillo.

They will be raising awareness and hopefully inspiring action among the many who live in Amarillo and the Texas Panhandle.

So how can you get involved? There are many ways to show your support for it and help. Here are a few ways you can help.

GO ORANGE

Orange is the official color of hunger relief, so any chance you get to wear orange is a good thing and shows you support the cause to end hunger. City landmarks and businesses going orange when and where they can is also encouraged. If you'd like an official orange shirt showing what you're doing, you can purchase one here.

SPEAK UP

You probably have neighbors that are struggling with hunger. Maybe you know about it, maybe you don't. Speak up for them on social media! Tag High Plains Food Bank and use one of the following hashtags to show your support for those struggling. #HungerActionMonth, #EndHunger, and #WeFeedTXPH

GIVE GIVE GIVE

Whether it's donating non-perishable items to the food bank, or shooting some funds over for them to use in order to purchase some, this is the most direct action you can take to help. Now, we understand not everyone is in a position to do this, but when you're at the store, grab just a couple extra cans of something that you can drop off. A little goes a long way.

EAT AT A COUPLE OF PLACES IN AMARILLO

There are two specific places in the Texas Panhandle that are donating a portion of their proceeds to the cause, and they're different days so go support them!

Donut Stop locations will be donating a portion of their proceeds to High Plains Food Bank on Hunger Action Day. So stop by September 10th and grab yourself an orange donut and help the cause!

On September 17th, it's McDonald's Give Back Day. You can stop at any McDonald's location in Amarillo, Canyon, Dumas, Dalhart, and Borger, and a portion of whatever you spend there will be donated to the High Plains Food Bank.

Amarillo Landmarks: Negative Yelp Reviews

Yelp can be a strange and angry place. That's what I found out recently when I decided to sort the reviews by "lowest rating" first.

I was okay with the people upset over bad service and what not. But I came across a few reviews that, for lack of a better word, left me speechless in their scathing negative reviews on some of Amarillo's most iconic places. Prepare your self for plenty of head shaking and "I dunno" shrugs.
