Two Horrendous Arrests Take Place In Amarillo For Disturbing Crimes
Well the weekend got started off with a bang in Amarillo, and I wouldn't exactly say it was the kind of bang we were looking for.
In a city that is well known for it's staggering crime rate, these aren't the types of things that make people want to move to our city, and they also don't make people want to STAY in the city if something different is presented to them.
It all kicked off with quite the drug bust. Myron Glover, Jr. was arrested and federally charged possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine and fentanyl.
That's not exactly the surprising thing. We hear about drug busts all the time here. However, this one was a bit different based on the amount of drugs that were seized in two different locations.
Glover had been living in Dallas, but DEA agents found out he was back in Amarillo earlier in September. They located his car at a residence on Apollo Trail. That was when they decided to setup surveillance.
When Glover left the house, the agents decided to follow him. As they attempted to stop him, he ran initially. The only thing that got him to stop was units being able to surround him. He got out of his car and took off running, but was eventually nabbed.
Glover had one pound of meth on his person when he was apprehended, as well as two pounds of marijuana in his jacket. It didn't stop there. When agents executed a search of the house, they found 16,000 fentanyl pills, 15 more pounds of meth, an addition 17 pounds of marijuana, seven guns, and $11,000 in cash.
Hours later, we caught wind of ANOTHER serious crime, this one involving underaged children.
Jonathan Paul Conwell was arrested on suspicion of having child pornography. The Randall County Sheriff's Office obtained and executed a warrant at Cornwell's home for evidentiary purposes.
Once inside, they found over 100 data storage devices that contained staggering amounts of child pornography on them. On those devices, police found photos and videos of underage children depicting and involved in sexual acts.
As of right now, actual charges are pending, but those charges appear as if they'll be severe once levied. It is a first-degree felony in the state of Texas to have 50 or more files of any sort of children engaging in or depicting sexual conduct under the age of 18.
The investigation on Cornwell is still ongoing.
