Look, we've all watched action movies and love the scenes where people run from the cops. Admit it, you've thought about running from an Amarillo officer just to feel the thrill of it, haven't you?

If you said no, you're full of it. It's crossed your mind before, whether as a fleeting thought or in a dream, but you've thought about it.

Well, if you ever wanted to try and race a cop and see if you could win the race, now is your chance. The popular "Race A Cop" event is back in Amarillo for its third year, and it's grown in popularity each year it's been around.

What Is Race-A-Cop

Held at the Amarillo Dragway, the event was created to help try and curb street racing that happens on the streets of Amarillo.

Street racing has been a problem for several years here in the city, and Jarrod Robertson, the Student Crime Stoppers Coordinator, came up with the event to see if it may help at least slow down the racing epidemic that had been taking over the streets

Has Street Racing Stopped In Amarillo

I don't know that it'll ever stop, but there are signs that it has slowed down a bit in recent years since the event was created.

Sadly, there was a relatively recent street racing incident on Hillside that left five people injured. The race was spurred by alcohol. So while it's gotten better, it hasn't stopped.

When Is The Event At Amarillo Dragway

This year, it's scheduled to take place on June 14th, and gates will open at 6 pm. Admission will run $10 for anyone 13 years or older.

You can find more info on the event here.

What Is A Day Like In Texas Prisons? A View From Both Sides Of The Bars

I also asked former inmates, and browsed forums and articles with current and former inmates. Put all together, it paints what I hope is a fairly accurate picture of daily prison life in Texas.
