Amarillo Kids Celebrate Groundbreaking of Rockrose Sports Complex
It's been a very long time coming for Amarillo when it comes to this particular project, but the day finally came yesterday, October 7, 2025.
A gathering of youth sports enthusiasts, leagues, and youth sports players from across the city, Rockrose Sports Complex became more than just a sign from I-27...it became a true reality.

Rockrose Sports Complex Breaks Ground
The announcement of this came a couple of weeks ago, but as with anything, there was hesitation about getting too excited over it. The project has been in the works for a couple of years now, but it hadn't quite reached the goal it needed to hit in order for this to become a reality.
With each passing day since the announcement, excitement built up, and many began to believe this was about to be a reality. Yesterday, the excitement paid off as dozens of kids and youth sports coaches officially got to help break ground on the new Rockrose Sports Complex.
Why Is This A Big Deal For Amarillo
With the way youth sports have exploded in the Texas Panhandle, Amarillo found itself lagging behind in state-of-the-art facilities. There are several baseball and softball complexes around the city to use, but they aren't as nice as some of the facilities in, say, Lubbock or other nearby areas.
Rick Klein recently installed some turf fields to be able to handle football and soccer, but outside of that, nothing matched up. Even Hereford got an all-turf baseball & softball facility before Amarillo could get one together. Now, these kids will have a place they can call their own.
How Will This Impact The City
The biggest way this will impact the city is by bringing more people to Amarillo. Teams from out of town will utilize our hotels, bringing in the hotel tax money to the city. Restaurants in the area will see an uptick in business. Local businesses will see an increase in shoppers.
This will be a financial win for the city, and it's something that should've been done a long time ago. It's hard to see and understand just how many people are a part of these events unless you're in the youth sports world, but trust me, there are HUNDREDS of people who will come in from out of town and make our city stronger financially.
