
Texas Places Lower Than Expected in Latest State Ranking
If you live in Texas, you will let everyone know it's the best state to live in. There isn't a debate to be had about it, we're the best.
A lot of times, the sentiment will be echoed by these "best states to live in" lists, however, this time it's different...and we're not happy about it.
Where Did Texas Land In The Latest Rankings
According to the latest U.S. News & World Report rankings, Texas was just a bit below average when it came to where we slotted in.
Texas landed at number 29 overall in the latest rankings, so not the worst, but not exactly the best as we lay claim to.
Where Did Texas Excel In The Rankings
According to the report, Texas has one of the best economies in the country, narrowly missing out on the top spot, checking in at number two. That's a really good place to be because it means businesses in the state are thriving.
It also means residents are doing well and making a fair amount of money. The economy can't thrive without strong businesses, and businesses can't thrive without residents who spend money.
Other Categories Texas Did Well In
There were three other categories where Texas landed inside the upper half of the rankings. Our next best ranking was in fiscal stability, which makes perfect sense considering how strong our economy is. We were ranked 12th in that category, meaning the state and its residents find themselves relatively stable financially as a whole.
We landed inside the top 25 in two more categories. A number 18 ranking for infrastructure, and checking in at number 25 for education. That last one is important because families look at that heavily when deciding to move somewhere.

Where Texas Needs To Improve
Four categories in the top 25, and four categories in the bottom half of the rankings. Healthcare checked in at number 32, which was our only other ranking not in the bottom 10.
Crime & corrections checked in at number 40, which, if you live here, shouldn't surprise you a bit. Natural environment came in at number 46, and our worst ranking was opportunity at number 48.
