Amarillo has been having some very fun and interesting events come through town lately. Just a couple of weeks ago, it was announced we'd be getting the Korn Ferry Tour coming through here for the next five years with the OccuNet Classic.

Now, we get a pretty cool event here that is a bit of a different sport, and the event itself is one of the oldest I've seen around.

Trapshooting Is Back In Amarillo

The 111th Annual Texas State Trap Association State Trap Shoot Championships is going on right now out at the Amarillo Gun Club, and it features some of the top trapshooting talents in the state of Texas.

This isn't a new event to Amarillo, as they get to host the championships every other year, but it's one of the coolest events you'll see come through town.

What's At Stake In The Championships

More than 300 shooters are taking their shot at trophies and collegiate & youth scholarships.

Over $22,000 in trophies will be awarded throughout the event, along with $4,000 in scholarships going out.

What Does This Event Bring To Amarillo

Aside from the over 300 shooters that are competing, it's a big revenue-generating event for the city.

The last time the state tournament was in Amarillo, the city raked in an estimated $1.2 million thanks to hotel, restaurant, and entertainment revenue.

When Is The Event

It's actually going on right now as it started on Tuesday, July 1. It runs through Sunday, July 6, so something fun to go and see for the 4th of July weekend.
