The Loft Is Now Amarillo’s Preeminent Place For Kids
One thing Amarillo seems to lack is places for the kiddos to gather and have fun. Sure, there's places like Cinergy, but they're just hanging out there or playing some games and calling it a night.
There are plenty of places to take the younger kids, but what about those older ones? The middle school and up crowd? They have a serious lack of options these days.

I remember growing up we'd go to the rec center in the city, play sports, games, and all sorts of different activities. The best part was there were always kids my age there. I made numerous friends just by going there, lifelong friends at that.
Now, Amarillo has something that will provide those middle school and high school kids a place to escape to, have fun, and learn on top of it all.
Enter The Loft
A brand new 77,000 square foot building built by First Baptist Church has been completed, and is now open for business. In fact, the building is slightly larger than Buc-ee's and was built predominantly on fundraising and donations by church members.
The building cost $41 million and is one of the largest projects downtown Amarillo has seen in decades.
What Is The Loft Exactly?
Located across from the main church on Harrison, The Loft is a place where kids in middle school and up can congregate for fellowship, fun, and learning. There are a lot of kids who don't have a place to go, and they're hoping The Loft is just that.
Dr. Howard Batson, FBC pastor told the Amarillo Globe-News, “We want to create a missional mindset in students who need to hang out together and make the church their second home and find their anchor and purpose in life.”
What's Waiting Inside
Equipped with two indoor basketball courts, and 150 feet of turf in an open area, it's definitely a place where those athletic kids can burn up some energy. They also have an area equipped with a drum set and more for those that are musically inclined.
Plenty of areas for group gatherings to study, learn, minister and be ministered, as well as The Landing. It's got a huge 13 X 24 foot screen, and a stage for sermons and more. There is seating for 300 people on the floor, with an additional 100 seats in the balcony. They plan on using this on Wednesday's the most.
There is so much more inside to explore and discover, so I highly recommend the kiddos get out of the house and go check it out. You never know what it could mean for them.
