This Texas Ice Cream Shop Just Opened A location In The State Capitol!
There are few things in life as universally loved as ice cream. It’s a sweet indulgence that brings people together, creates memories, and, in the case of Gozo’s Ice Cream, changes lives. As someone who spent over a decade working closely with adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD), I know firsthand how often they are underestimated—how the world too frequently places limitations on what they can achieve. That’s why Gozo’s mission has always been deeply personal to me. And now, this incredible El Paso-based ice cream shop is making history by expanding into the Texas State Capitol.

A Mission That Matters
Gozo’s Ice Cream is more than just a dessert shop—it’s a statement. A project of the El Paso Community Foundation, Gozo’s is dedicated to providing meaningful employment opportunities for adults with IDD. Every scoop they serve is a testament to the belief that everyone deserves a chance to work, grow, and contribute to their community. That belief, one I’ve fought for throughout my career, is now being amplified in Austin, thanks to state Rep. Mary González, D-El Paso, who is hosting Gozo’s in her office at the Capitol.

Representation in the Halls of Power
For me, this expansion is about more than just business growth; it’s about representation, dignity, and the recognition that adults with IDD deserve to be seen—not just in our communities, but in the very halls where policies that shape their futures are made. It’s about a piece of El Paso, a city I love, showing the rest of Texas what inclusion truly looks like.

A Movement Worth Supporting
Seeing Gozo’s succeed at this level is a reminder that change happens not just through laws and advocacy but through everyday acts of empowerment. If you find yourself in Austin, stop by and grab a scoop. You won’t just be tasting some of the best ice cream around—you’ll be supporting a movement that proves everyone, regardless of ability, deserves a place at the table.
