The Bobby Bones Show's 2019 St. Jude Radiothon kicked off on Thursday (Dec. 5), with a variety of artists lending their talents to help raise money for kids with cancer. One particularly moving performance came from Scotty McCreery, who delivered an understated, lovely cover of Garth Brooks' classic "The Dance."

"This was a song I grew up singing," the Season 10 American Idol winner told Bones. "The first-ever singing competition I ever got in, I was like 14 or 15, was a local thing called 'Rip the Hallways'—they were taking kids from schools. So I sang it there." Watch McCreery's version above (starting at the 3:47 mark).

McCreery, who also performed an acoustic version of his single "Five More Minutes," explained to Bones why he strongly supports St. Jude with his charitable endeavors (including an appearance on Celebrity Family Feud benefiting the foundation). "They do incredible work over there. I remember the first time I got to go to the hospital I was, like, nervous—because you go a hospital and meet kids, it's kinda sad and you're trying not to cry," he noted. "But you walk into St. Jude and it's like, the children are smiling, the doctors and the nurses are all smiling...it's just a bright atmosphere. Any chance I get to help St. Jude, I jump at it, 'cause they're awesome."

McCreery has an upcoming EP, The Soundcheck Sessions , and is scheduled to play several dates through March 11. Tickets and a list of locations are available at his official website.
